It takes a lot to lead a country – compassion, strength, honesty, and a love for justice…which is probably why the dictators in this list didn’t last too long as leaders. There have been terrible leaders throughout history, as there are terrible leaders today, and there will be in the future. It is painfully true that there will always be people who are power-hungry, cold-blooded, and lacking any sense of love for their country. This list is a compilation of ten of the absolute worst dictators across the Earth’s history.
Ho Chi Minh was the president of Vietnam. He came to this leadership position by use of violence and fear. He executed over 100,000 people for his land reforms, and over a million people died as a result of famine and seclusion in war camps.
Mengistu Haile Mariam was the leader of Ethiopia, and was one of the most violent and deadly leaders of all time. He eliminated anyone who appeared to oppose him, including the opposition party in his country. Over 1.5 million people died because of him.
